Let’s be safe together!

Protocols to follow to enable our children to enjoy learning through play in a safe environment!

Introduction

Welcome to Future International Nursery (FIN)!

We are so happy to have you and your child as a part of our FIN community.

The health, safety and wellbeing of every child is our highest priority. This handbook aims not only to cover our key policies, daily routines, and the safety protocols but also to help our parents understand the precautionary measures that we have put in place to ensure the seamless running of the nursery day, which will allow your child to feel safe, happy and ready to grow.

All our policies are in line with the requirements of the Ministry of Health, KHDA, Dubai Municipality and the Dubai Health Authorities- as well as best practices from around the world.

We kindly request you to Read through this carefully.

Your support in this is crucial and we believe together we can allow our children to enjoy, learn and play in a safe and nurturing environment.

What your child should bring to the nursery (and what NOT to bring!)

Items to bring every day:

All items must be LABELLED with your child’s full name
  • Soft Bag pack (No wheels) – Children should be able to enjoy as much floor space as possible. We therefore want to limit the amount of space taken by bags and storage to enable open space for learning.
  • Water bottle (with Lid) – For safety & hygiene reasons, children need to bring a water bottle on a daily basis. Please label the container with your child’s name and group. Note that unlabeled water bottles will not be given to the child. Refillable bottles go home each evening for washing. If the child needs extra water while on the premises, they will be given disposable water cups.
  • Lunch box If you have opted for your child to bring their own food, please ensure any food item sent from home is placed in a plastic lunch box that can be independently and easily opened by the child.
  • Please send only healthy food items such as small sandwiches, cut up fruits and vegetables. Please avoid processed and sugary food items. FIN is strictly NUT- FREE.
Note: If you have opted for FIN’s food service (available from 18 months) no lunch box is needed.
  • Extra clothes for changing: All labelled clothing items should be placed in a plastic bag, labeled as well.

Please keep 3 extra sets of clothes for your child (underwear, T- shirt & bottoms) to make sure we can change your child whenever necessary. Infants/toddlers have a separate list provided at registration.

No clothes will be washed on site. Any soiled item will be sealed in a plastic bag & sent home for washing.

  • Shoes

Applicable for infants and Toddlers – For toddlers, Anti-slip socks are fine to prevent slipping during play.

Please don't bring

  • Jewellery:

For health and safety reasons, your child should Not wear jewellery during the time spent at the nursery (Small stud earrings are fine). FIN cannot be held liable for any loss or damage.

  • Toys and electronics:

No Toys or electronics (tablets, phones) – unless your teacher has specifically requested an item for Show & Tell. We do not allow iPads or phones in the nursery and cannot be held responsible for any loss or damage of these items.

Settling in period

Before your child joins their class, we arrange a settling session so families and teachers can meet, share information and get to know each other. On the first two to three days your child attends, we suggest a shorter two-hour visit, then gradually build up the time over the following days.

Some separation anxiety in the first few days is completely normal. Our team is trained to support children through this transition, we are here to help you and your child transition into the nursery setting and we’ll keep you informed every step of the way!

Safety during Drop off & Pick up

Please use the main Reception entrance for bringing & collecting your child. We ask parents to wait patiently until their child is taken to their class at drop off or brought to reception during pick up.

Drop Off time

Health & Safety starts when the child arrives at the nursery.
Please ensure your child is always under your supervision while in the parking space, and until you hand them over to the FIN team in reception. Our security is there to ensure a safe flow of traffic and we kindly ask parents to cooperate and follow his guidance.

Pick Up time

Your child will ONLY be released to adults listed on the Pick-Up Authorization Form. Please keep this list up to date at all times – this is a mandatory safeguarding requirement.

In an emergency, where you are unable to pick your child and the person collecting is not on the list needs to collect your child, call the administration and send a copy of their ID ahead of time.

We request parents not to use these drop off & pick up times to talk to the teachers as it is important they are in their classrooms with the other children. For any emergency or any important matter kindly inform administration, alternatively you may message on WhatsApp or the Parent App.

Daily routines Safety

Meal Times

Children wash their hands thoroughly multiple times a day, especially before eating. All surfaces are regularly disinfected. Sharing food is a good way of developing social skills, however our children are encouraged to ask their teachers’ permission before sharing any food items with their friends. This prevents children from sharing items that may trigger an allergic reaction in another child and ensures that teachers are aware of what the children are eating during their meals.

An updated allergy list is placed in every area in the nursery to ensure the staff are aware of the allergies of all the children in the nursery to prevent triggering any allergic reaction.

Teachers consider mealtime family time and sit and eat with the children to not only monitor but to encourage mealtime conversation and practice mealtime etiquettes.

Children with severe allergies have a Care Plan that’s discussed and monitored by the nurse and all staff in their class are updated and aware of what this care plan entails.

Nap time (for our 0-3yrs)

If your child needs a nap, please ensure that you send sheets, a pillow, and a blanket — all labelled with your child’s name. Bedding goes home weekly for washing. Bed frames are cleaned and disinfected according to our strict protocol.

During nap time teachers are assigned to the room to provide constant monitoring for the children while they sleep.

Nappy changing time (intimate care)

A very strict protocol is followed during intimate care of children and nappy changing.

  • Staff wear single-use protective gloves and aprons that are changed after each child and all surfaces are disinfected after each use.
  • All used protective items are considered medical waste and are kept in separate plastic bins away from children.
  • Waste is managed swiftly and all bins in the teaching space and bathrooms are emptied regularly.

Trips, events and Afternoon Clubs

FIN arranges several educational trips and events throughout the academic year. Extracurricular activities (e.g. Sports Clubs, karate, ballet etc.) are delivered by external agencies which are approved by KHDA.

Parents will be notified of all these events and activities via our Parent Application and consent forms will be sent out accordingly for trips.

Sharing food/Goodie bags during events:

At times, events such as Eid, special events or birthdays, parents might be eager to send treats, or goodie bags to be shared among the children in the class. There are a few important protocols parents need to keep in mind to ensure the health and safety of all.

  • Contact the teachers or administration to provide a full list of ingredients for the food items provided. This helps with tracking any allergies that may occur.
  • If you wish to send food items, please make sure that items are individually wrapped and DO NOT contain any NUTS. This includes, peanuts, cashew, pistachio, Nutella, peanut butter, almond flour etc.
  • Educational gifts must be age-appropriate and approved by the teachers or admin in advance. FIN reserves the right to withhold gifts that may pose any risk to children.

Health & Sickness Policy

Our school nurse checks the temperature of all children on arrival. The bus assistant will check temperature of children on the bus to protect every child and staff member, please keep your child at home if they show any of the following:

  • Fever of 37.5°C or above (on the day or the day before)
  • Diarrhea or vomiting
  • Skin rash
  • Persistent cough
  • Severe pain
  • Nasal discharge
  • Red, watery or sticky eyes
  • Any signs of serious discomfort

Children must be symptom-free for 24 hours (without medication) before returning. A medical clearance certificate is required after any infectious illness.

If Your Child Becomes Unwell at Nursery

In order to provide a safe and healthy environment for all children, our nurse will assess any child who seems unwell at the nursery.

If a child is unwell and needs to go home, parents will be contacted immediately and must collect their child within one hour.

To help prevent the spread of infection, the child will be taken to the clinic and stay with the nurse until he/she is collected by the parent.

A child who is unwell or has a fever of 37.5 and above is not allowed to ride the school bus to prevent spread of infection.

Please ensure all contact numbers and your emergency contact form are always up to date in case we cannot get through to parents.

If a child continues to present two or more of the symptoms below, parents are requested to keep them at home to rest and recover (the child should be free from illness and fever for a maximum of 48 hours, without any medication before sending them to the nursery).

Reporting Absences

  • In cases of absence from nursery, parents should call the nursery on the first day of absence and let us know the reason and give details of the child’s condition.
  • Children returning after an infectious illness must be symptom and fever free and bring a doctor’s clearance certificate in order to resume the nursery.

In cases of contagious diseases, the following guidelines should apply:

Isolation Periods for Contagious Diseases

Illness Minimum Isolation Period
Chickenpox (Varicella) 10–14 days, or until all scabs have cleared
Measles (Rubella) 10–20 days
German Measles (Rubella) 14–24 days
Mumps 10–21 days
Hand, Foot & Mouth Disease 7–10 days

In the unlikely event of a medical condition, accident or any emergency, parents will be informed right away.

Head Lice

FIN’s approach to head lice

Control of head lice depends on prompt diagnosis and effective treatment. Whilst parents have the primary responsibility for the detection and treatment of head lice we will work in a cooperative and collaborative manner to assist in managing head lice effectively.

FIN asks all families to:

  • Check your child’s hair weekly using the conditioner and fine-tooth comb method.
  • Keep children at home if live lice are found and treat immediately.
  • Notify the school nurse once treatment has started.
  • Children do not attend school with untreated head lice.
  • Parents/carers will notify the school if their child is found to have live lice and advise the school nurse when appropriate treatment was commenced.
  • Should a case of head lice or nits be discovered, the parents of the concerned child will be asked to collect the child from school and to treat him/her immediately until ALL live lice have gone.
  • On their return to school, the child will be examined again by the nurse. If the child is found to be free of head lice, they can resume their attendance as normal. Should they still carry head lice, they will be asked to return home for further treatment until the problem has been resolved.
